A New Orchid - Show and Tell Friday

Pin It Now!

Welcome to Show and Tell Friday!  Thank you all for the warm comments you left two weeks ago and sorry for not posting last week!  My ex-husband was released from the hospital last Friday so we were still going to the hospital every night after work last week and I didn't have time to write a post.

Joe is staying with us for now and he seems to be doing okay although he's not eating much and he's very tired. We don't know how much time we have left with him. He has stage 4 pancreatic cancer.  There is no cure.  I'm happy that he is here and that Lauren has this precious time with her dad.  The first week after the diagnosis was really hard but now we are settling into it and making the best of the time we have left with him. He's staying in Lauren's room and she's sleeping with me but she got really sick this week with 101 degree fever so I've been sleeping on the sofa the last 3 nights so I don't catch it! I sure hope I can stay healthy but I feel a twinge of a sore throat tonight so I'm getting a little worried.

Sorry I try to keep my blog positive and happy but there are some things that are important to share.  If you or anyone you know is losing weight for no apparent reason please see a doctor right away. Joe had lost his appetite and had been losing weight for months before he was diagnosed. He also started having a pain in his upper right abdomen. He then got to the point where he couldn't keep any food down but he thought he had the stomach flu (almost two weeks of this).  It was actually the tumor blocking the bottom of his stomach so he couldn't digest any food.  These are all signs of pancreatic cancer but we didn't know that until he got jaundice (yellow skin and eyes) and we took him to the doctor.  I'm not sure it would have made a lot of difference but I wish he would have gone to the doctor months ago. I'm sharing this so you all know the symptoms.

Okay...now on to Show and Tell Friday...

This week I'm sharing this beautiful orchid that someone brought him.  It's huge! It has another branch of buds above the one that you can see.

I'll do my best to find something to post about every week but I know you will understand if I miss a week here and there.

That horrible "C" word!

Pin It Now!

Sorry but no Show and Tell this week. We are dealing with a terrible tragedy.  My ex-husband (my daughter's dad) has been sick for the last couple weeks. I took him to ER on Monday night and what we thought what was a really bad stomach flu is pancreatic cancer.  We've been spending every minute we can at the hospital.  Even though he's my ex we have remained friends for so many years. My daughter was only six when we separated and now she's 22. Ugh...22 is way too young to lose her father!  Please keep her and him in your thoughts and prayers. I need to get through the shock of the last two days! We found out Tuesday and it feels like the last two days have been weeks long!

Summer Fun - Show and Tell Friday!

Pin It Now!

Welcome to Show and Tell Friday!

I really don't have any home-related things to share this week but I did make a summery mosaic with some of my old photos.

I've been out with my friends enjoying summer.  Last weekend we went to a party at a spectacular home...

Me and my friends with the DJ who was also serving us wine before the music started.

And here's a shot of the backyard of the home the party was at!  It was gorgeous and had views of the valley!

I have to say though...It's a little depressing coming home to my little apartment after being at a place like this. Not that I would ever want a big place like this... just something in between!

A little more summer decor - Show and Tell Friday

Pin It Now!

Welcome to Show and Tell Friday!

I've been moving some more summer decor around...

I brought the dried hydrangeas and the apothecary jar (which is actually a beverage dispenser) from my bedroom into the living room for a little bit of a change.  I get so tired of looking at the same tablescapes after awhile!  This table was ready for a little change.

I love the dish that I have the dried hydrangeas in.  The problem is you don't really see the beauty of it unless it's above eye level.  I bought it years ago at a second-hand store.

This table is directly across from the fireplace mantel that I shared last week so it's nice that it blends so well with the seashells i have on the mantel.

Here's a better shot of the bottom of this dish...

Summer Mantel - Show and Tell Friday

Pin It Now!

Welcome to Show and Tell Friday!  This week I'm sharing my fireplace mantel that I decorated for summer.

I used things I already had around my apartment and just brought them all together here.

I love summer decor because it goes so well in my blue and white apartment!

On a different subject...has anyone tried the Whole30 diet?  I would love to hear your feedback. My niece and her family did it and had great results so I bought the book. I'm still reading it and I hope to start my 30 days in the beginning of August.  No sugar, no grains, no legumes, no dairy and no alcohol!  It will be a challenge because I love my wine!  I think it will be good to give all those things up for 30 days though and then you can add them back in and see how your body responds. Let me know if you've done it!

and I would like to share a photo from last weekend...me with my amazing girlfriends who make my life so much fun!  We were at "Music in the Park" in Los Gatos, California.

Gina, Cheryl, Karen, me, Christine and Nancy!
